The 2004 sports story The controversy that put LifeWave patches in the spotlight Tap to expand this section +
In 2004, biomedical engineer Dr Karl Maret introduced LifeWave Energy Enhancer patches to renowned women’s swimming coach Richard Quick. Within weeks, the Stanford women’s swimming team saw outstanding results, with team members achieving personal best performances.
During the U.S. Olympic Trials period, swimmers were seen wearing the patches, which quickly sparked questions from officials, coaches & competitors. Concerns were raised about whether the non-transdermal patches could contain testosterone or other prohibited performance-enhancing substances.
Samples were handed over for anti-doping review & laboratory testing. LifeWave maintained that the patches were drug-free, non-transdermal & based on light technology. The testing found no banned substances in the patches, and the athletes involved were cleared to compete without doping penalties.
